one that gets really confused by a lot of people

A native english speaker teaches some common words which are very close in meanings. She says:

"This is one that gets really really confused by a lot of people."Famous" and "popular".

The use of "get confused" in the sentence caught my attention, because it seems to be used for inanimate things. So far, I have heard it being used for us, humans, because our brains often get confused.
